It was also at the Homowack (and I did go to the Catskill resorts in their heyday) but that was not their heyday. The place smelled moldy, the food was classic heavy Jewish lumps of kugel, etc., and in general the place left everything to be desired. Yet I now remember fondly getting together with all the family to celebrate his birthday and of course the photo is priceless. Moral of the story? It’s the people, not the food or surroundings, that counts.

Comment on Loving Nurses: Refined by Fire by Aviva http://bjyudelson.com/loving-nurses-refined-by-fire/#comment-9384 Fri, 03 Jul 2015 02:48:34 +0000 http://bjyudelson.com/?p=285#comment-9384 I have nothing to say but that this is beautiful. My throat is tight with tears. Grandma, I love you, your writing, and this piece. I love the nurses and that phrase, “refined by fire.” I love that you got such caring and meaningful nurses because you deserve it.

With all my love, and many hugs and kisses to both you and Grandpa,
Aviva.

i have also learned that it’s not the quantity of years our life is given, but the quality of life that were given that truly counts when we need it it most. enjoy your angels my friends, they make each day worth living.

much love,

chaya

I miss her, and I can only imagine how much you do. B.J.

Such depth and wisdom and reality and relationship! Thank you – I have known such nurses, and believe that they are angels on earth.
With much love,
